Mta New York City Transit And Teltronic’S Powertrunk Pilot Tetra Lmr Network In The United States.

January 11th, 2012 – MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) and PowerTrunk, Inc. have successfully completed a TETRA land mobile radio (LMR) network pilot in New York City. The NYCT pilot demonstrates the multiple features and functionality of the TETRA digital technology.

PowerTrunk Inc., headquartered in New York City, is the subsidiary of Teltronic S.A.U. responsible for business development, distribution and customer support for Teltronic land mobile radio projects in North America.

MTA New York City Transit is the largest public transportation agency in North America and one of the largest in the world. The bus fleet, which has over 5,900 vehicles, is the largest in North America with an average weekday ridership of 2.69 million users a day (846 million annually). It has more than 280 local and express routes throughout the five boroughs, with buses traveling more than 130,000 miles. The subway has a daily ridership of more than five million, and an annual ridership close to 1.6 billion. NYCT fleet of 6,380 subway cars travel almost 345 million miles a year along 660 miles of track in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens. MTA serves Staten Island with their Staten Island Railway (SIR).

The two-site pilot network evaluation included a range of Radio Equipment from PowerTrunk such as, a telecom switch, base stations, mobile units for buses and support vehicles, multiple hand portables to communicate with mobile users, a CeCoCo line console dispatcher unit with two operator positions and a gateway to the telephone network to test cell and PABX/PSTN handovers.

Accounting for the size and requirements of its Bus System, NYCT evaluated the TETRA system independently for its capacity, efficiency and features. NYCT’s trial found significant advantages with the TETRA system in the following areas:

    - Radio Efficiency and Capacity: TETRA proved to be frequency-efficient because it is a 4-slot TDMA technology. System capacity can further be increased by means of frequency re-use. Use of 4 independent communications channels in a 25 KHz RF bandwidth channel make it twice as efficient in terms of occupied bandwidth as a traditional 12.5 KHz RF bandwidth FDMA channel.

    - Open Standard: TETRA is an open standard used outside US by most Police, Fire, EMS and other public safety agencies in Europe, Asia and South America. TETRA provides flexibility in terms of network components because a mix of supplier equipment can be used with this system. The TETRA standard is supported by many manufacturers and there are over ten suppliers in Europe, Asia and other regions.

    - Potential cost savings: A typical TETRA handset costs a fraction of the current handset. It is also capable of voice, data and calls not only within the system, but outside the system to landline phones, cell phones and other telecom networks.

    - Equipment Size and Capabilities: TETRA equipment is about 1/4 to 1/3 more compact in size than competing technologies. TETRA also consumes less power because its digital design works with low power equipment to accommodate frequency re-use.

    - Network Management: TETRA demonstrated network monitoring, diagnostic, maintenance and reporting capabilities in addition to being very user-friendly for day-to-day bus dispatch operations.

Based on the findings of various tests during the trial, TETRA is one of the technologies that offer optimum solution to balance the cost and space of equipment with that of supporting the services for a high capacity network like that of NYCT.

“Our TETRA land mobile radio solution is uniquely suited for transportation systems as proven by the networks we have installed in such major cities as Mexico City, Barcelona, Bogota and Rio,” stated Jose Martin, Chief Operating Officer of PowerTrunk. “Now we are proud that such a prominent metropolis as New York City hosted our TETRA pilot for its transit system. I would like to say to American LMR users that TETRA has arrived in the US.”

Teltronic Reflects On A Strong 2011 And Announces A Change Of Focus In Its 2012 Marketing & Communications Activities As It Continues To Look “Beyond Tetra”.
December 6th, 2011 – TELTRONIC recognises that TETRA is now a well-known, widespread technology which has been supplied to at least 125 countries around the globe. Therefore, the company has taken the decision to enhance its communications activities by promoting TETRA-based applications rather than focusing on presenting the technology itself. As a result of this decision, TELTRONIC will no longer participate in the TETRA World Congress or in other TCCA-related events on the understanding that the user community is sufficiently aware of all TETRA functionality and benefits. Instead, TELTRONIC will increase its investment in its highly successful TELTRONIC Day concept and other relevant events from 2012 onwards.

TELTRONIC has had a strong 2011. In spite of Government cutbacks in its home market of Spain, the company was awarded the contract to build the Balearic Islands public safety TETRA network as well as being asked by existing customers to extend network capacity and supply radio terminals to systems already installed in the Basque Country and Canary Islands among others. TELTRONIC is also at the forefront of developing innovative solutions based on TETRA for new market segments such as taxis.

Outside of Spain, TELTRONIC’s business is growing fast. The company remains the number one supplier of TETRA equipment across Latin America. The opening of offices in high economic growth regions such as Asia-Pacific (Singapore) and Middle East (Dubai) is also starting to pay off as company income from Asia grows at rates of up to 50% annually, threatening to surpass the levels reached in our more mature markets.

And of course, TELTRONIC’s North American subsidiary, PowerTrunk Inc., was awarded the first ever TETRA contract in North America in October to supply a full, advanced communications solution to Canadian power utility, BC Hydro. This follows on from PowerTrunk Inc. having been the first company to be awarded type acceptance licences for its TETRA infrastructure and terminals by both US and Canadian regulators – FCC and Industry Canada – and having completed successful TETRA pilots in both countries since 2009. PowerTrunk is also able to offer North American public safety customers its P25 product portfolio, including Phase 2, with Ethernet/IP hardware based on its highly successful TETRA infrastructure.

As 2011 draws to a close, TELTRONIC is firmly focused on the future. After a highly successful 15 years as part of the IBV Corporation – during which the company grew internationally with a fourfold increase in turnover and entered the digital age to become one of the market leaders in TETRA technology – TELTRONIC now has a new shareholder. N+1 is one of the major Spanish private equity groups, whose investment will allow TELTRONIC to further expand its portfolio of products, services and markets, while maintaining the continuity of its management structure and focus on R&D.

As part of its strategy to look beyond TETRA, TELTRONIC has already achieved important sales of APCO P25 equipment in Latin America and is a leader in next-generation TETRA + Broadband solutions for public safety with its ground-breaking TelMAX project generating innovative products and first implementations.

The TELTRONIC Day concept has become well-known and widely accepted in a number of countries around the world. In Mexico, the sixth edition of this annual event took place in Puebla earlier this year, and similar events have taken place in countries as diverse as Australia, Colombia and Korea. In order to serve our customers better and in recognition of the rapid growth of TELTRONIC’s international activities, the company intends to increase the number of TELTRONIC Days held around the world during 2012. A list of locations, dates and full details of each event will soon be available so that the global PMR community has the opportunity to attend a TELTRONIC Day to keep up to date with the latest industry developments.
TELTRONIC has been – and will continue to be – a strong supporter of the TETRA standard and the TETRA Association, participating actively in a number of its working groups. TELTRONIC also recognises the support received from the Association over the years and welcomes its change of name from the TETRA Association to the TETRA + Critical Communications Association (TCCA) TELTRONIC looks forward to working closely with the TCCA in the future to maintain the TETRA standard and help develop future technical standards for broadband PMR.
These are exciting times for the PMR industry, as enormous opportunities and rewards are on offer for those nimble, forward-looking companies who are able to adapt, grow and anticipate trends in the new economic, financial and technological climate. TELTRONIC is looking forward to the challenges of 2012 and beyond.

Tetra Climbs Aboard The Taxi With Teltronic And Bernabe Comunicaciones.
October 17, 2011 – BERNABE Comunicaciones has been working together with TELTRONIC since 1983. In 1991, Abutaxi – the main taxi association in the city of Burgos – selected BERNABE Comunicaciones for the installation of an analogue PMR system provided by TELTRONIC. Then in 2007, the same association asked BERNABE to update its 15-year-old radios to a new system. TETRA technology was the choice. Today Abutaxi possesses a modern TETRA solution whereby a single carrier can support over 300 vehicles with simultaneous voice and data, full dúplex calls and GPS location as well as other services.

At the project implementation stage, in close consultation with the customer, BERNABE Comunicaciones decided against using the traditional TELTRONIC MDT-400 mobile unit MMI, designing instead a special hardware unit to avoid the vehicle having any visible part which could be removed. Solution development was completed with a specially manufactured on-board terminal using the Windows CE operating system with a 5.7” LED touchscreen.

These developments have led to a taxi with a concealed TETRA radio, hands-free communications, taxi-meter connection, hardware-based emergency button as well as all the equipment being installed discretely without the need for a hand-microphone thereby reducing the possibility of damage and traffic fines for drivers.

In the case of taxis, some of the clear advantages of choosing TELTRONIC’s TETRA solution over other existing PMR technologies are:
    - The possibility of voice as a critical element for communication and security
    - The possibility of sending large volumes of data, including short data, status messages and packet data
    - The possibility of a security system installation which protects taxi-drivers from attacks
    - The possibility of connecting the driver directly with customers via PABX.

TELTRONIC’s TETRA solution allows all of this and besides, ensures permanent access to a prívate network with no restrictions on use and where network size is adapted to requirements and controlled by the customer.

According to Angel Bernabe, General Manager, BERNABE Comunicaciones: “Our goal is to satisfy our customers’ needs as they are the ones who know how to do their job the best, how to optimise resources and maximise benefits. In our country we say that we get used to good things straight away. The taxi-drivers got used to the new TETRA solution with all its tangible benefits. We believe that TETRA has climbed aboard the taxi never to get off again and that the sector generates good business around the world making TETRA an attractive comercial proposition.”

Angel Bernabe took part as a speaker in the prestigious international event, PMR Summit, that was held during September in Barcelona’s Melia Hotel. TELTRONIC was Gold Sponsor at the same event. PMR Summit will take place next year at Barcelona’s Rey Juan Carlos Hotel on September 17-19.

    Dear Customer/Partner,

I’m pleased to inform you that the private equity firm N+1 has reached an agreement with our current shareholder IBV Corporation to buy 100 % of the shares of Teltronic and other companies of the group. The deal is part of the divesting process initiated by IBV some years ago after a fruitful period which led to significantly increase the value of its owned companies. IBV has remained the sole shareholder of Teltronic for fifteen years along which the company’s turnover has been multiplied by four and its strategic position has been reinforced to become one of the major PMR TETRA vendors in the international market.

This acquisition has been made with no impact against Teltronic’s financial solvency so that the company is more capable than ever to implement its technological and commercial plans with its own resources. In addition, the transaction guarantees the continuity of Teltronic’s management team to preserve and strengthen our business model, management style and strategic position in the market. Teltronic is committed to continue with the development of its own-technology-based portfolio, to increase consistently its international market share and to keep its strong customer-oriented policy.

The arrival of our new shareholder N+1 occurs at a time of important expectations of sustainable growth for Teltronic, based especially in the North American market, where our subsidiary PowerTrunk Inc. has led the process to introduce TETRA as well as our cutting-edge APCO 25 solutions; in the growing opportunities for TETRA and Wireless Broadband for transit applications, a segment in which Teltronic figures as an indisputable leader; and in our powerful portfolio of solutions for public safety and security users.

N+1 is one of the major Spanish private investing groups, with more than 3,000 million euro under management and a successful track record of investments (please refer to http://www.nmas1.com). A new and exciting era starts now with N+1 as our shareholder as we keep betting for investment and growth as the pillars of our present and future success.

The Biscay Transport Consortium (CTB in Spanish) has signed an agreement with Basque Country operator, ITELAZPI to deploy its TELTRONIC TETRA network in Bilbao Metro

    Fecha:

    Fri, 10/06/2011

    Descripción:

June 10th, 2011 – The Biscay Transport Consortium (CTB in Spanish), which includes Bilbao Metro as service operator, Euskal Trenbide Sarea (ETS) as transport infrastructure management company and EuskoTren as multi-line service operator, have recently signed an agreement with ITELAZPI, the Basque Government TETRA communications service provider to use its TELTRONIC TETRA infrastructure, supplied by a consortium made up of TELTRONIC and GRUPO CYS. This agreement will allow Bilbao Metro to change its existing TETRA system for TELTRONIC’s latest generation TETRA (NEBULA) infrastructure, currently operated by ITELAZPI, with coverage across the whole of the Basque Country, which will be extended further during 2011 to include the railway’s underground sections.

This service will allow Bilbao Metro to reap the benefits of a latest generation TETRA (NEBULA®) communications infrastructure, capable of providing advanced data applications.

The goal of ITELAZPI’s TETRA network is to provide services to Basque institutions: the network infrastructure is therefore shared among a wide range of public services so that these can benefit from wide-area network coverage. At this moment the TELTRONIC TETRA infrastructure is made up of 137 Base Stations deployed across the whole of the Basque Country, and it will reach 161 Base Stations by the end of 2011, taking into account the roll-out taking place to cover a number of underground railway sections.

As well as offering voice services, this system also enables advanced data applications, such as automatic vehicle and person location, telemetry and remote resources management, plus database access from the radio terminal.

As of today, the ITELAZPI TETRA network has already signed up a number of Basque Country government entities, public emergency services (ambulances), local councils, municipal water companies, and now, Bilbao Metro.

TELTRONIC continues its success in Spain with the recent award of a new Public Safety and Emergency TETRA network for the Balearic Islands

    Fecha:

    Tue, 03/05/2011

    Descripción:

March 25th, 2011 – TELTRONIC, together with SAMPOL, have been awarded the contract to build for the supply and installation of an emergency and security network to cover the Balearic Islands: Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera. The new emergency communications network based on TETRA technology is called TETRAib and will be run by the government-owned company, Multimedia Illes Balears S.A.U., dependent upon the Department of Technology and Communications of the Balearic Islands Government.

The implementation of the TETRAib communications network involves an investment of just over 4 million euros. 70% coverage will be achieved in June 2011 with almost complete territorial coverage in December 2011. The network is designed to handle in excess of 3,000 users from the full range of emergency services and local, island and autonomous government entities that will now share a common network allowing greater efficiency, coordination and functionality.

TELTRONIC’s TETRA network (NEBULA®) will be made up of 36 base stations, covering the islands of Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera. It will operate in the emergency frequency band of 380-400 MHz, reaching over 95% geographical coverage. All base stations are being connected via TCP-IP; all critical network elements are being duplicated to guarantee continued service; encryption is available as well as the possibility of recording all voice communications.

TETRAib also gives its users access to a number of advanced services that TELTRONIC’s TETRA technology can offer. As well as the standard voice call capabilities – group calls, individual calls, emergency call, full-duplex call etc. -, a wide range of data services are now possible over the TETRA network: GPS in mobile and hand-held radios, Virtual Private Network (VPN) functionality, dynamic groups and the possibility of interconnection with public networks and advanced network management and monitoring services.

On March 24th, the project was presented by the Balearic Island Government’s Innovation, Interior & Justice Minister, Ms. Pilar Costa in the presence of some 200 people, including several media outlets.

According to Miguel Aladren, TELTRONIC’s Commercial Sub-director for Spain, “TELTRONIC has a vast experience of delivering wide-area public safety networks such as TETRAib and we have consolidated our position as the main TETRA supplier in the Spanish market in recent years with a number of high-profile deployments in the Basque Country, Canary Islands and the Autonomous City of Ceuta to name but a few.

“Our TETRA technology (NEBULA®) based on Ethernet/IP has a flexible architecture which provides a scalable, expandable network design, with high levels of redundancy. As in Spain, we are the main supplier of TETRA in Latin America and the technology has been supplied to over 50 countries around the world.”

PowerTrunk fully supports the FCC ruling that allows U.S. business, industrial and transport sectors to deploy TETRA land mobile radio networks. PowerTrunk TETRA equipment has already been approved for sale in the U.S. and Canada by the FCC and Industry Canada.

    Fecha:

    Fri, 29/04/2011

    Descripción:

New York, NY – April 28, 2011 – “This TETRA waiver is one of the most important recent FCC decisions for the U.S. market. This ruling fully opens the door to a technology which has been well proven to be successful throughout the rest of the world – and which the U.S. market can now finally benefit from,” stated Jose Martin, Chief Operating Officer of PowerTrunk. “PowerTrunk is leading the entry of TETRA technology into North America. We are the first company to install a TETRA pilot network in Canada in BC Hydro, and the first in the United States in NJ TRANSIT.”

PowerTrunk has been instrumental in the introduction of TETRA into the United States as it was the first company to obtain a type acceptance certificate for a TETRA base station radio/repeater, followed by type acceptance certificates for its TETRA subscriber unit and its TETRA mobile unit. As a result, today PowerTrunk is the only company authorized to sell the entire TETRA product range of base stations, subscribers and mobiles in North America.  These type approvals were obtained by using a spectrum-compression technique based in a modification of the roll-off parameter of the TETRA modulation that eliminated interference with existing systems. This roll-off compression modification results in an insignificant power reduction that has inconsequential impact on operational performance.

The FCC partial waiver allows TETRA equipment to be deployed in the United States without the power restrictions previously required to obtain equipment type approval. The FCC has endorsed PowerTrunk’s existing type acceptance certificates which have been automatically upgraded to feature TETRA up to its full extent of RF power in 450-470 MHz and 817-824/862-869 MHz. For bands not included in this FCC waiver, PowerTrunk will commercialize its TETRA range of products with the existing roll-off compression until a future rulemaking authorizes usage of maximum power.  PowerTrunk’s product range covers 409-430 MHz, 450-470 MHz and 806-870 MHz. All PowerTrunk FCC-approved TETRA equipment can be modified by software upgrade, without any hardware change, to operate with a higher transmitter output power.

“PowerTrunk greatly appreciates the enormous efforts of the TETRA Association to bring about this decision by the FCC,” added Jose Martin. “We would also like to thank RCC Consultants for their expert advice about the U.S. market that helped advance the waiver.”

Trial demonstrates new level of integrated communications to nation’s largest statewide public transportation provider

    Fecha:

    Mon, 28/02/2011

    Descripción:

New York and Paris — February 28, 2011 – Alcatel-Lucent and PowerTrunk Inc. have successfully completed a trial of a TETRA/LMR (Terrestrial Trunked Radio/Land Mobile Radio) network with NJ TRANSIT in Newark, New Jersey. This is the first TETRA trial in the United States and demonstrates the multiple features and functionality of TETRA technology, as well as the strength of specialized TETRA-enabled applications.
TETRA is a digital trunked mobile radio standard developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) widely deployed by public-safety agencies, utilities and transportation companies outside North America with 2,000 contracts in place in more than 100 countries to date.
The trial TETRA/LMR network enabled NJ TRANSIT buses to communicate, using voice and data, with operations personnel. The current network limits available data bandwidth and is not spectrally efficient.  The trial TETRA network provided higher data bandwidth and 6.25 KHz voice equivalency that will meet future FCC narrow-banding requirements.
Covering a service area of 5,325 square miles, NJ TRANSIT is the nation’s largest statewide transportation system, providing bus, rail and light rail transit linking major points in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia.  The agency operates a fleet of 2,027 buses, 711 trains and 45 light rail vehicles. NJ TRANSIT’s 240 bus routes and 12 rail lines take passengers on over 223 million trips each year.
“This is the first TETRA trial in the United States and the only one that entirely utilizes equipment certified by the FCC,” stated Jose Martin, Chief Operating Officer of PowerTrunk. “We are delighted to team with Alcatel-Lucent for this project and I hope that we will cooperate in many others in the future.”
“The existing NJ TRANSIT communications backbone enabled us to efficiently and smoothly reconfigure the network to support TETRA,” said Nicola Guidara, Director of Transportation Market Segment for Alcatel-Lucent’s Americas Region. “Thanks to our close collaboration with PowerTrunk, together were able to provide NJ TRANSIT with an advanced TETRA network.”
Alcatel-Lucent served as the primary network integrator for the trial.  PowerTrunk-T provided base stations, mobiles, hand portables, a line dispatcher and a switch to integrate a legacy VHF system. In addition, the network is integrated to an existing CAD system and a PowerTrunk PABX/PSTN gateway allows full duplex cellular-like communications between cell phones and PowerTrunk radios.
PowerTrunk has received authorization from the FCC and Industry Canada for its TETRA base station repeater as well as for a subscriber unit and a mobile unit. These units are currently being piloted in the NJ TRANSIT demonstration. Certificates for the PowerTrunk TETRA BSR75 base station radio/repeater, the TETRA HTT-500 subscriber unit and the MDT-400 mobile unit are available at the FCC website.

New York, NY — February 15, 2011 – PowerTrunk rejects the misleading statements made by Sepura, Rohde & Schwarz and Nielson Communications

    Fecha:

    Tue, 15/02/2011

    Descripción:

New York, NY — February 15, 2011 – Last January 5 PowerTrunk Inc. announced it installed the first TETRA land mobile radio network in United States history. The PowerTrunk TETRA pilot, hosted by New Jersey Transit (NJ TRANSIT) in Newark, went live in early November 2010 and was made public once the trials were successfully completed. All TETRA equipment used for the pilot is FCC-certified.
On January 18 Sepura Plc., a British manufacturer of TETRA subscriber equipment, issued a press release titled “Sepura, Rohde & Schwarz Professional Mobile Radio and Nielson Communications together in first TETRA demonstration project”. The release contained several misleading statements. It stated that the pilot would go live on January 19. However, on January 27 Nielson Communications informed several media sources that open demonstrations were not expected to start until March 2011. The Sepura press release also misrepresented their TETRA pilot, which they call a “demonstration project” or “showcase”, as the first in the U.S.
Vendor misrepresentations should not be allowed to distort PowerTrunk’s true and exceptional achievement. PowerTrunk is confirming its claim to be the first company to set up a live TETRA network in the United States, up and running since November 2010. While in other circumstances it may be irrelevant to claim to be the first, it is not irrelevant at all when speaking of introducing TETRA in the United States. Such an accomplishment involved overcoming innumerable challenges and barriers erected by well established entities to protect their interests in North America.
PowerTrunk holds FCC and Industry Canada type acceptance certificates for the entire TETRA equipment range offered in North America: infrastructure, handhelds and mobiles. Compliance with existing North American emission requirements was accomplished by adjusting one of the parameters which characterize the TETRA modulation. Such modification does not affect the equipment’s ability to remain fully interoperable with any other TETRA equipment in the rest of the world. Loss of performance is minor, only about 1 dB in terms of RF power, with no operational consequences.
PowerTrunk also asserts that all the existing TETRA Interoperability Profile (TIP) Certificates in the possession of its parent company Teltronic S.A.U. are applicable to the United States. PowerTrunk equipment manufactured by Teltronic passes 100 % of the TIP tests as defined by the TETRA Association and its Technical Forum. Therefore, all FCC-certified and IC-certified TETRA equipment that PowerTrunk offers for sale in North America complies fully with TIP standards.
PowerTrunk reiterates its full support for the request filed by the TETRA Association before the FCC for a waiver which would allow featuring the TETRA modulation up to its full extent in terms of RF power. Concurrently, PowerTrunk supports a process underway in Canada for a new emission mask. However, it is also PowerTrunk’s policy to work within existing regulations in both countries. The ETSI TETRA standard is flexible enough to allow an implementation which is both compliant with current emission requirements and fully interoperable (TIP compliant) at an international level. Should a waiver and/or a new emission mask be granted in the future, PowerTrunk equipment can immediately be reconfigured to feature the maximum RF power[1].
To avoid confusing the LMR public, PowerTrunk has requested that Sepura publish a retraction regarding the misrepresentations in its press release. To date Sepura has not complied. PowerTrunk has chosen to issue this release so the facts are clear about the timing of the first TETRA network installation in U.S. history.

The pilot consists of a two-site network which includes PowerTrunk-T base stations, mobiles, hand portables, a line dispatcher and a switch to integrate a legacy VHF system. In addition, the network is integrated with an existing CAD system and a PowerTrunk PABX/PSTN gateway allows full duplex cellular-like communications between cell or public switched phones and PowerTrunk radios. The pilot operates on a combination of a leased T-1 line and a private optical fiber backbone with routers configured for Ethernet Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) required by PowerTrunk-T infrastructure equipment.
“It is important that NJ TRANSIT conduct technical due diligence on available digital LMR (D-LMR) systems as we move closer to finalizing functional specifications to replace our aging analog LMR system,” said NJ TRANSIT Director of Radio Communications, Andrew Schwartz. “We must ensure the technology we ultimately acquire through a competitive process is scalable, maintainable, and supports a rich set of features to address current and future Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications, including robust data capabilities.”
NJ TRANSIT has already piloted other D-LMR systems and is now exploring the available features and functions of TETRA, a D-LMR standard used around the world for other advanced transit applications.
“We chose to pilot PowerTrunk’s TETRA LMR because of their leadership in bringing TETRA to the U.S., their success in winning FCC type-acceptance for their equipment under Part 90, and their track record of successful transit LMR deployments. To date, results have been positive. We have used the PowerTrunk-T system alongside our legacy LMR system without any interference issues,” Schwartz added.
“PowerTrunk’s specialized transportation-ready TETRA equipment is operational in some of the largest train, subway and bus systems around the globe. Our transportation customers include the STC Subway in Mexico City, the second most populous metropolitan area in the world,” said Jose Martin, Chief Operating Officer of PowerTrunk. “We are honored that NJ TRANSIT chose to host the first U.S. TETRA pilot with us.”

February 1, 2011 – TELTRONIC Brazil engineers have been highly commended by Rio de Janeiro Police authorities for having collaborated with the State Telecommunications Department (DETEL-RJ) to enhance its TETRA network and provide vital support for police officers carrying out operations in the city.

    Fecha:

    Tue, 01/02/2011

    Descripción:

During the final days of November 2010, there were serious disturbances in a number of Rio de Janeiro districts, including Vila Cruzeiro and Complexo Alemao. The situation became so severe that Police and Special Forces had to intervene decisively on November 25th. The operations lasted for several days and drew wide media coverage as the regional government and police authorities’ actions were placed in the spotlight. Fortunately the situation was brought under control and normality was restored.
As a recognized secure communications technology leader, TELTRONIC Brazil has built up a strong relationship with the Rio de Janeiro public safety authorities over a number of years. During 2007, the company installed a large city-wide TETRA network in record time for the Pan-American Games consisting of over 20 fixed and mobile sites and more than 15,000 radio terminals which were made available to multiple users – including Rio de Janeiro Civil & Military Police – to manage a sporting event where over 5,500 athletes from 42 countries participated in a number of arenas across the city without major incidents. Following the Games, TELTRONIC Brazil continued to provide secure communications to the major public safety organizations, enhancing coverage and capacity where necessary to guarantee authorities the best possible service. The 31-site TETRA network now provides 1W hand-portable coverage across the whole of the city.
Immediately following the recent outbreak of violence, a number of engineers from the Rio State Department of Telecommunications (DETEL-RJ) and TELTRONIC Brazil were called into action to set up and maintain secure communications links between the public safety and Civil Defence forces and the Special Forces troops on the ground in the conflict areas.
Over a period of days, DETEL and TELTRONIC Brazil worked tirelessly night and day programming and activating approximately 130 additional on-board radios for armoured vehicles and motorcycles for front-line and Military Police personnel; preparing and activating an additional repeater site to improve radio coverage in the conflict zones; creating a new radio link between this site and an existing one and setting up several gateways to allow communications inside the armoured vehicles. During this highly stressful period for all concerned, the above tasks were undertaken successfully and professionally, strengthening the relationship between TELTRONIC Brazil and the local authorities and proving once again the resilience and versatility of TELTRONIC’s Ethernet/IP-based NEBULA (TETRA) solution.
“The operations carried out jointly by DETEL and TELTRONIC during the recent disturbances were a total success and have led to very positive comments in the local press, “ explains Marcos Peniche, Technical Director, DETEL-RJ. “We are extremely pleased with the way TELTRONIC’s engineers worked together with us to find quick, effective solutions to a number of difficulties faced during these operations.”
“We pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality TETRA solutions and continuing to offer the best possible service to our customers. We were therefore honoured to be able to participate in this critical operation to restore law and order under such difficult circumstances.” states Matheus Ribeiro, Regional Manager, TELTRONIC Brazil.
In recent years, Brazil has become synonymous with rapid economic growth and innovation which has turned it into one of the most admired economies in the world. As the country prepares itself for two major global sporting events: the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Olympics – millions of tourists will flock to its most iconic city, Rio de Janeiro and hundreds of millions more around the globe will be watching and cheering on their teams. Although less visible, TELTRONIC’s TETRA network will be working continuously in the background keeping public safety officers, the public, visitors and competitors safe.
